Debunking CA SR22 Insurance Myths
(This is part two of a two-part blog series about CA SR22 insurance. Click here to read the first blog.)
A CA SR22 can be a huge help after your license has been suspended or revoked. After a serious traffic violation, when you feel at your lowest, it doesn’t help when the judge orders you to have a CA SR22.
Don’t worry—we’re here for you. This blog will clear up some of the misconceptions surrounding a CA SR22. You’ll see that once you know more about it, things aren’t as bad as they seem.
1. It isn’t really insurance
When searching for a quote, you’ll often come across terms like “SR22 insurance in California.” Although you’ll often see “SR22” and “insurance” paired together, an SR22 isn’t an insurance policy. It’s a certificate that shows you have sufficient liability coverage when driving. The misconception comes from needing both car insurance and an SR22.
If you already have California car insurance, your insurance provider can also quote you for a CA SR22. They can send you the form, and then will forward the SR22 certificate to the DMV.
2. It isn’t that expensive
Surprised? You’re probably expecting everything insurance-related to skyrocket once you get a driving violation. However, SR22 insurance in California is pretty cheap. You can find prices in the $25 range.
Sure, it’s a pain to have to pay one more thing, but an SR22 insurance in California has huge benefits. It can reinstate your driving privileges (to a degree), and that’s more than worth the low price.
3. It won’t last forever
Now for some good news—you won’t need SR22 insurance in California forever. You only need it only for as long as it takes for your driving records to clear. This is generally about three or four years, depending on the violation.
Three years may seem like a long time, but once the time is up it’s easy to get the SR22 removed from your insurance policy. Just call your car insurance provider and ask them to remove the filing. Then, no more SR22.
Find the CA SR22 You Need At the Price You Deserve
Now that you know what to look for, you’ll be on the lookout for fairly priced cheap SR22 insurance in California. Remember, just ask your car insurance company, and if you don’t have insurance, you can get them both.
